Voice 21

What is Voice 21?

Voice 21 is the UK’s oracy education charity. We work with schools to transform the learning and life chances of young people through talk. We campaign for oracy to have a higher status in the education system.

What is Oracy?

Oracy is articulating ideas, developing understanding and engaging with others through speaking, listening and communication.

In school, oracy is a powerful tool for learning; by teaching students to become more effective at speaking and listening, we empower them to better understand themselves, each other and the world around them. It is also a route to social mobility, empowering all students, not just some, to find their voice to succeed in school and life beyond.

Our School Vision Statement for Oracy

Our aim is to create an Oracy rich community where we all have the skills to reason, negotiate, present and explore ideas which will lead to success within and beyond the classroom.

School Council

The School Council have been promoting Voice 21 across the school and have collected pupil voice feedback. Here are some of the comments they have received:

  • “Voice 21 has helped me work better in a group and gather more ideas.”
  • “Oracy activities have given me confidence to listen to ideas and join in. I am not as nervous anymore.”
  • “I have learnt how to ask for clarity when I do not understand what someone has said.”
  • “I like how we get to hear different points of view and can change our minds.”
  • “Voice 21 has made having a class debate better.”

The School Council will continue to promote the Oracy Framework in assemblies.
